Dr. Edward A. Hiler — elected a member for outstanding contributions in the development of the stress-day index concept for crops, improved irrigation system design, and electrochemical water clarification.

Dr. Christine A. Ehlig-Economides — elected a member for contributions to the testing of wells and the characterization of reservoirs, including the management, integration, and visualization of data from multiple disciplines.

Dr. Stephen A. Holditch — elected a member for contributions in hydraulic fracturing and developing low-permeability gas reservoirs, and for technology transfer in both of these fields.

Dr. John L. Junkins — elected a member for contributions to flight mechanics and flexible vehicle control.

Dr. W. John Lee — elected a member for contributions to the theory and practice of formation evaluation of low-permeability gas reservoirs.

Dr. Kenneth F. Reinschmidt — elected a member for innovative development of productive uses for computers in plant and building design, construction, and operation.

Dr. Herbert H. Richardson — elected a member for leadership in transportation research and contributions to systems dynamics education in mechanical engineering.

ENGINEERING SOCIETIES' AWARDS

Dr. Mehrdad (Mark) Ehsani, professor and holder of the Robert M. Kennedy '26 Professorship in Electrical Engineering, has been elected a Fellow of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International for his "outstanding accomplishments in the field of hybrid electric vehicles." Full story

Dr. Bjarne Stroustrup, professor and holder of the College of Engineering Chair in Computer Science at Texas A&M University, has been selected to receive the 2005 William Procter Prize for Scientific Achievement from Sigma Xi, the scientific research society. Full story

Dr. Ibrahim Karaman, assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, received the 2005 Robert Lansing Hardy Award from The Minerals Metals & Materials Society (TMS), recognizing "outstanding promise for a successful career in the broad field of metallurgy by a metallurgist under the age of 30." Dr. Cam Nguyen, professor of electrical engineering and holder of the TI Professorship II in Analog Engineering, has been elected a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for his contributions to microwave integrated circuits and systems. Full story

Dr. Edward R. Dougherty, professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M University, has been named recipient of the Presidential Award from SPIE, the International Society for Optical Engineering. Full story

The Society of Petroleum Engineers International (SPE) of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers (AIME) honored Texas A&M petroleum engineer Dr. John Lee with the DeGolyer Distinguished Service Medal. Full story

Dr. Stephen A. Holditch, head of the Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University and holder of the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation Chair, has been named recipient of the 2005 Anthony F. Lucas Gold Medal from the Society of Petroleum Engineers International (SPE) and the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineering (AIME). Full story

Dr. Rayford G. Anthony, the C.D. Holland Professor of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University, has been designated to receive the American Institute of Chemical Engineers' 2004 Fuels and Petrochemicals Division Annual Award. Full story

Maldonado, associate dean in the Dwight Look College of Engineering at Texas A&M University and assistant director of the Texas Engineering Experiment Station, has been named to serve as a member of the National Academy of Engineering's Committee on Diversity in the Engineering Workforce. Dr. Juergen Hahn, assistant professor of chemical engineering at Texas A&M University, has been honored with the Best Referee Award for 2004 by the Journal of Process Control. Full story

UNIVERSITY AWARDS

Dr. Ann L. Kenimer, associate professor in the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, has been named a runner-up for the 2005 Texas A&M University Presidential Teaching Excellence Awards. Full story

Three engineering faculty were honored with Distinguished Achievement Awards, the highest honor bestowed on the institution's faculty and staff by Texas A&M University's Association of Former Students. For distinguished research, The Association honored Dr. Edward R. Dougherty, electrical engineering, and Dr. Lihong Wang, biomedical engineering; and for distinguished student relations, Dr. Karen Butler-Purry, electrical engineering. Full story

The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents named Dr. Dara Childs a Regents Professor in January 2005. Childs has a joint appointment with Texas A&M and the Texas Engineering Experiment Station. The Regents also named Regents Fellows, including John "Bill" May, Jr., and Arturo Alonzo, both with the Texas Engineering Extension Service; and W. Don Dickson of the Texas Engineering Experiment Station. Full story
