Civil engineering’s Kim receives ISOPE award, writes textbook
Dr. Cheung Hun Kim, Professor Emeritus of coastal and ocean engineering in the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering at Texas A&M University, was presented an award July 9 at The International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE) Conference in Vancouver.
Kim was presented the Jin S. Chung Award in recognition of his outstanding, creative and innovative contributions to the offshore, ocean and polar engineering fields.
ISOPE was established in 1989 and now includes members from more than 30 countries. The society exists to promote and improve technological progress in the interdisciplinary fields of offshore, ocean and polar engineering and related technologies through international cooperation and participation.
Kim also has written a new book, Nonlinear Waves and Offshore Structures. The book is the 27th volume of the Advanced Series on Ocean Engineering published by the World Scientific Publishing Co.
This book represents a culmination of more than 40 years of research in ocean wave behavior and its impact on structures. Kim’s text deals with analyses of nonlinear problems encountered in the design of offshore structures and presents conclusions drawn from recent research pertinent to nonlinear waves and their effects on the responses of offshore structures. Kim said the book will be useful to both undergraduate and graduate students.
